WestSoy began a little over 35 years ago when the original founders, two students who ran a coffeehouse at the University of California at Davis, converted a supermarket into a natural and organic food center. The location they picked in the Westbrae district of Berkeley, CA, gave them their original name -- Westbrae Naturals! Kristin Brun, one of the original founders of WestSoy, remembers, "When we started out it was in the energy of 'let's do something good for the planet, and let's do something good for the people, on both sides of the counter.'"

This remarkable energy led the new entrepreneurs to many marvelous ideas for healthy, organic foods. While the other co-founder, Bob Gerneer, made granolas to sell to customers and other natural stores, Kristin Brun was busy looking for new product ideas and developing recipes that expanded the product line to include peanut butter, baked whole-grain breads, organic vegetables from Bob's garden, and organic fruits from family farms.

One of the many great ideas they had was to begin importing soymilk from Japan. The 100% Organic Original you see on the shelves today was one of the earliest products offered. Through an amazing history of trial and error, (as well as a name change from Westbrae to WestSoy), WestSoy is now the leader in shelf-stable beverages with an astounding array of products that match any taste or craving.

In 1997, WestSoy became part of The Hain Celestial Group, the leader in natural and organic foods.
